Concept

Chromatic aberration — where it appears

The failure of an optical element to bring different colours to the same focus, because its focal length depends on wavelength. A glass lens's focal length rises with wavelength and a diffractive element's falls, by about a hundred times as much, which is why one can be used to correct the other.
