Concept

Buoyancy frequency — where it appears

The rate at which a displaced parcel of stratified fluid oscillates, set by the difference between two density gradients — the environment's and the parcel's own. It is a few cycles an hour in the atmosphere and the ocean, and it is the ceiling on the frequency of any internal wave the fluid can carry.
